Trail description

The loop starts at Pehuenco in Nahuelbuta National Park and follows the Sendero a Araucaria Milenaria through araucaria forest to the Piedra del Águila, a rocky outcrop with a viewpoint, returning by the southern path. The view from the rock spans the whole width of Chile, about 215 km, taking in the Pacific Ocean, the Central Valley and the volcanoes of the Andes. The park was created on 4 January 1939 and protects forest of araucaria, roble, coigüe and lenga, home to the Darwin's fox. It is normally open Tuesday to Sunday, and CONAF closes it when weather and safety conditions require. The loop is about 7.2 km, with some 320 m of climbing.
