Penco

Trail description

A 3 km walk with about 50 m of climbing through Penco, from Villa Penco to Villa Los Aromos, on the Bay of Concepción. Penco was founded by Pedro de Valdivia on 12 February 1550 as Concepción del Nuevo Extremo, making it the third oldest city in Chile after Santiago and La Serena. Its name comes from the Mapudungun pen, see, and ko, water. The inhabitants are called pencones, to tell them apart from the penquistas of today's Concepción.
