Trail description
A flat 1.6 km walk at about 4,530 m on a dirt track along the south shore of the Lagunas de Cotacotani in Lauca National Park, starting near the viewpoint over the lagoons and the Parinacota volcano. The lagoons, whose Aymara name means 'group of lagoons', lie 4 km northwest of Lake Chungará and are dotted with islands and islets, mounds of lava from the area's volcanic activity. They are fed underground from Lake Chungará, which sits 18 m higher, and drain through the Desaguadero into the Lauca River. Snow-capped peaks surround them, among them the Payachatas volcanoes Parinacota and Pomerape.
