Trail description
The loop starts at the entrance on Avenida Arturo Phillips, on the Santo Domingo (south) bank of the Maipo river mouth, and follows the boardwalks and paths of the Humedal Río Maipo past its bird-watching viewpoints and back to the entrance. Declared a nature sanctuary in 2020, it protects 60.3 hectares of estuary, lagoons, dunes and beach where birds nest, feed and rest, on a migratory route that brings thousands of birds from the northern hemisphere every year. The park sector has about 1 km of universally accessible boardwalks and six viewpoints, including the seven-metre Mirador Siete Colores, shaped like the nest of the siete colores bird. The loop is about 2.2 km and nearly level.
