Faro Monumental

Trail description

A flat 2.4 km walk in La Serena from Caleta San Pedro past the Faro Monumental on Avenida del Mar to Avenida Francisco de Aguirre. The lighthouse was built in 1950 and 1951 at the request of President Gabriel González Videla as part of his Plan Serena, and it was declared a National Monument on 9 June 2010 for its neocolonial architecture. The navy handed it over to the city as a tourist attraction in 1985. La Serena, founded in 1544, is the second oldest city in Chile and the capital of the Coquimbo Region.
