Trail description

A short climb on old mine tracks from about 5,200 m to the 5,604 m summit of Cerro Toco on the Chajnantor plateau above San Pedro de Atacama, with views over the Licancabur volcano and the salt flats. The whole walk is above 5,000 m, so acclimatise for several days first; the access road crosses a protected astronomy area and most people go with a local guide.
