Trail description
The walk starts beside Parque Ecuador at the foot of Cerro Caracol in Concepción and climbs the Subida Cerro Caracol road up the wooded hill to the Mirador Alemán, passing about 40 m from the 256 m summit. The hill takes its name from the snail-like zigzags of the colonial royal road that Ambrosio O'Higgins had built over it. The Mirador Alemán, a granite Bismarck tower inaugurated in 1921, is the only one in South America; its upper level, destroyed by the 1939 earthquake, was later rebuilt. The walk is about 2.1 km one way, with some 200 m of climbing.
