Avenida del Mar

Trail description

The walk starts at Playa Canto del Agua, on the boundary between Coquimbo and La Serena, and follows the foot and cycle path of the Avenida del Mar north past La Serena's beaches to the Faro Monumental. The seafront avenue was built over dunes and marshy ground, and its first stage was opened on 1 February 1980. The Faro Monumental, built in 1950–51 by the Chilean Navy under President Gabriel González Videla's Plan Serena, is a neo-colonial lighthouse styled as a fortress, a symbol of the city and a Monumento Histórico. The walk is about 4.4 km one way and flat.
