Poço Azul Chapada Diamantina

Trail description

Short walk from the hamlet of Moreno in Nova Redenção, in the Chapada Diamantina of Bahia, along the country road to the Poço Azul, a cave whose flooded well glows an intense clear blue. Visitors can float in the pool with a mask; the ticket includes the float. From about February to October, around midday, a beam of sunlight shines through the cave into the water. In 2005 palaeontologists recovered an almost complete skeleton of a giant ground sloth from the pool.
