Trail description
A 5.4 km walk with 18 m of climb in the cross-border Kempen-Broek park. It starts by the Broekmolen on the Grensweg at Stramproy, just on the Dutch side of the border, follows the border road south, crosses the Abeek and ends in Belgium at the Mariahof ponds in Beek (Bree), by the Natuur.huis Mariahof and car park P6 at the end of the Mariahofstraat. It is mostly on field and forest tracks; the last part follows the marked loops of the St. Maartensheide-De Luysen reserve around the ponds, where the yellow loop has bird hides. Natuurpunt describes the reserves strung along the Abeek on the Bree-Bocholt border as a stronghold of the tree frog and a breeding site of the red-backed shrike; the Natuur.huis opens on Sunday afternoons.
