Saghmosavank to Hovhannavank Gorge Trail

Trail description

A walk through the Kasagh river canyon between two medieval monasteries in Aragatsotn, about 45 minutes from Yerevan. It starts at 13th century Saghmosavank on the canyon edge, drops into the gorge and follows it south past the ruins of a 4th century church of Gregory the Illuminator to Hovhannavank, also perched above the canyon. Two short sections cross small boulders, and the gorge can hold snakes in spring and get slippery when wet. Allow about 3.5 hours for the 8 km.
