Trail description

A high route in the Gegham Mountains from Lake Akna, the largest lake in the range and a protected natural monument, to the summit of Mount Azhdahak (3,597 m), the highest volcano in the Geghams. The trail passes between the twin peaks of East and West Aghusar and crosses boulder fields and lava flows to the crater, where a snowmelt lake sits inside the rim. From the top the views reach Ararat, Aragats and Lake Sevan. The area is remote, unmarked and prone to summer thunderstorms, so go well prepared.
