Azat Reservoir Walk

Trail description

This short out-and-back walk starts at the viewpoint by the dam of the Azat Reservoir near Lanjazat in Ararat province and follows the track along its north shore past several viewpoints over the water. The reservoir, at about 1,050 m on the Azat River, has been in use since 1976, holds about 70 million cubic metres and irrigates the Ararat valley. The Yeranos mountains rise around it, and Mount Ararat is in view on clear days. The Azat itself rises in the Geghama mountains and flows past Garni and Geghard before reaching the reservoir.
