Arpi to Noravank

Trail description

A Transcaucasian Trail stage in Vayots Dzor from the village of Arpi on the River Arpa to Noravank monastery in the red cliffs of the Gnishik gorge. The trail climbs a steep side valley past an old mineshaft to a saddle with a spring, then crosses high dry hillsides before descending toward the gorge. The final approach reaches the river below the monastery, with a steep path up to Noravank and a side trail to the chapel of St Pokas. Expect about 12 km with around 900 m of ascent.
