Trail description

A steep 4.2 km climb of about 980 m up the Sendero Cerro Chapelco Grande to the 2,394 m summit of Cerro Chapelco Grande, above the Chapelco ski area near San Martín de los Andes. The name Chapelco means water of the chapel, a local shrub, in the Mapuche language, and the mountain gives its name to the ski and snowboard centre 19 km from San Martín de los Andes. It rises from a forest of old lenga trees, and points along its slopes look out over Lanín National Park, the Lanín volcano, Lago Lácar and the town below. The ski runs were laid out by Federico Graeff in 1946.
