Cajón del Azul

Trail description

An 8.1 km walk with about 355 m of climbing from the Wharton trailhead above El Bolsón up the Río Azul valley on the marked Sendero Cajón del Azul to the Cajón del Azul, a narrow rock canyon with a mountain refuge. The path is waymarked in red and yellow on trees and rocks, and the walk in takes about 3 to 4 hours. The Cajón del Azul refuge takes no reservations and receives walkers on a first-come basis. The valley lies in the Río Azul-Lago Escondido protected area, part of the Andino Norpatagónica biosphere reserve.
