Trail description

Maja e Papingut (2,482 m) is the highest summit of the Nemërçka range, and its gentler western side can be climbed on foot from the Zagoria village of Skore. The route climbs through forest past a shepherd hut at about 1,500 m, then follows a long ridge to the top, gaining some 1,550 m in 4 to 5 hours of ascent. There is no water, so carry plenty, and only go in summer or early autumn unless you have winter gear. Skore is about 2.5 hours from Gjirokastër on unpaved roads that need a 4x4, and the hike suits only fit, experienced walkers.
