Mountain Description
Bolshoy Almatinsky Pik (Big Almaty Peak, 3,681 m) is one of the most recognisable summits above Almaty, Kazakhstan, in the Trans-Ili Alatau of the northern Tian Shan. It rises beside the turquoise Big Almaty Lake and the Tian Shan Astronomical Observatory, and is a popular acclimatisation and day-summit objective. The main season is June to September; the rest of the year the upper slopes hold snow and require winter skills.
