Trail description

The Watkin Path up the south side of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon): 9 km with about 1,260 m of climb on the track from Pont Bethania in Nant Gwynant to the summit, the biggest ascent of the summit routes. It climbs through woodland into Cwm Llan past its waterfalls and pools, the ruins of Plas Cwm Llan and Gladstone Rock, where Prime Minister William Gladstone opened the path in 1892, zigzags up past the old slate quarry workings to Bwlch Ciliau and Bwlch y Saethau, and takes a loose, unstable final section to join the Rhyd Ddu Path just below the top. Parking at Pont Bethania is very limited and Eryri National Park says public transport is essential; the Sherpa S4 bus stops there.
