Trail description
A four-day trek of about 30 km and 3,200 m of climb from Budadiri up the steep Sasa Trail, through bamboo forest and the giant groundsels of the moorland, to Wagagai, at 4,321 m the highest point of Mount Elgon on the caldera rim. Nights are at the Sasa River camp and Mude Cave camp (twice, before and after the summit day), and the walk out returns the same way; Uganda Wildlife Authority guides are compulsory, and above 4,000 m altitude sickness is a real risk, so climb slowly.
