Mount Karisimbi

Trail description

A 7.6 km climb from the Volcanoes National Park trailhead shared with the Bisoke and Dian Fossey walks, past the camp below the summit cone, to the top of Mount Karisimbi, at 4,507 m the highest of the eight major Virunga volcanoes and the 11th highest mountain in Africa. The stratovolcano stands on the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and its name comes from amasimbi, snow in Kinyarwanda, after the snow that sometimes lies on the summit in June, July and August.
