Volcán Maderas from Mérida

Trail description

A long, steep climb from Mérida on the west side of Ometepe through dry, humid and cloud forest to the crater of Volcán Maderas (1394 m), which holds a small cold crater lake. The trails are steep and muddy after rain, a round trip takes 6 to 9 hours, and hiring a local guide is strongly recommended since trails are unmarked.
