Trail description

Uryunuma marsh is a high moor dotted with ponds at about 850 m in the Mashike mountains of central Hokkaido, in the Shokanbetsu-Teuri-Yagishiri Quasi-National Park. This out-and-back route starts at the Minami-Shokanso lodge, climbs through forest to the marsh and walks round its boardwalk loop, 10.5 km with about 370 m of climbing. The road to the trailhead is open only from early summer to autumn, and brown bears live in the area.
