Trail description

The winding Snake Path from the visitor centre on the Dead Sea side up the east face of Masada, Herod's cliff-top fortress, climbing about 350 m in many switchbacks to the summit plateau with its palaces, cisterns and the view over the Dead Sea. Most walkers start before dawn to see the sunrise from the top. The path opens before sunrise and closes in the heat of the day; a national park ticket is needed.
