Mount Slamet via Bambangan

Trail description

The main route up Mount Slamet, at 3,428 m the highest mountain in Central Java, from the Bambangan basecamp through dense forest to the loose volcanic slopes and the crater rim. About 13.5 km out and back with some 1,940 m of climbing; most walkers take two days and camp at the upper posts below the rim. Register at the Bambangan basecamp; the crater closes when the volcano is restless.
