Trail description

A 17.4 km trek with about 1,500 m of climbing from Mana, the last village before Tibet above Badrinath, up the Alaknanda valley past the Vasudhara falls and Laxmi Van along the moraines of the Bhagirathi Kharak glacier to Satopanth Tal, a three-cornered sacred lake at about 4,400 m below Chaukhamba. It usually takes four days there and back, with camps at Laxmi Van and Chakratirth. A forest permit from the office at Badrinath and a local guide are needed, and the altitude needs a slow ascent.
