Trail description

A 1.8 km walk with 56 m of climb through Fertőrákos, past the bishop's mansion, the watermill and the church, to the old quarry. The quarry cut Leitha limestone, a Miocene marine sediment 10-12 million years old that the Romans already used for the walls of Scarbantia, today's Sopron; large-scale quarrying began in 1857. Its cave theatre, founded in 1970, seats 760, and the Sziklai Benge nature trail above the quarry presents the quarry and the nature of the Fertő-Hanság National Park.
