Col de Balme

Trail description

A 6.5 km climb of about 650 m from the hamlet of Le Tour at the head of the Chamonix valley up the pastures to the Col de Balme at 2,191 m on the French-Swiss border. From the pass the whole Chamonix valley opens up toward Mont Blanc, with the Aiguille du Tour, Aiguille du Chardonnet and Aiguille d'Argentiere close by. The Charamillon gondola from Le Tour shortens the climb, the refuge at the col is open from July to September, and the path is usually clear of snow from June to October.
