Trail description
Jebel Abbas Pasha, once called Jebel Tinya, rises west of the town of Saint Catherine in the high mountains of South Sinai. This route leaves the town and follows the old camel and donkey road that Abbas I had built to carry supplies for his summit palace, through the Abu Jeefa pass and up Wadi Zawatin. The palace was never finished because he died in 1854, but its 2 m thick granite walls still stand on the top. Opposite rises Jebel Somra, where the open quarry for the palace blocks is still visible.
