This steep descent starts on the Karvounas to Troodos Square road, 1 km before Troodos, near the source of the Karkotis River. It follows the nature trail down the river valley through pine forest to Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis, a Byzantine church with fine frescoes on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Officially 9 km and rated difficulty 3, it can continue about 3 km by road to Kakopetria.
