Stone Forest Shilin

Trail description

This loop starts at the main gate of the Stone Forest scenic area in Shilin Yi Autonomous County, Yunnan, and winds through the Major Stone Forest past the Sword Peak Pond to Ashima Rock in the Lesser Stone Forest. The grey limestone, more than 270 million years old, stands in pillars 20 to 50 m tall. Shilin is part of the South China Karst World Heritage Site (2007) and a UNESCO Global Geopark (2015), and the Sani branch of the Yi people, whose legend of the heroine Ashima the rock recalls, have lived here for many centuries. Entry needs a ticket (CNY 130 for adults), and the park lies about 90 km east of Kunming.
