Volcán Chaitén

Trail description

A 2.3 km climb of about 610 m from the car park on the Carretera Austral up through regrowing forest to the rim of Chaitén volcano, which erupted in 2008 after 9,000 years of quiet and buried the town below in ash. From the rim the new lava dome still steams in the crater. The trail is in Pumalín Douglas Tompkins National Park.
