Trail description

The Mastic Trail is an old footpath of about 2.3 miles through the Mastic Reserve in the interior of Grand Cayman, managed by the National Trust for the Cayman Islands. It crosses the largest stretch of native dry forest left in the Cayman Islands, on old coral-reef limestone, and is named after the rare yellow and black mastic trees. Early settlers used the path between Frank Sound and North Side to haul beach rock and mahogany; it fell out of use once coastal roads were built and was cleared and reopened in 1995. This line follows it from the southern trailhead off Mastic Road, where a rock causeway crosses black mangrove, north to Further Road.
