Pico do Fogo from Chã das Caldeiras

Trail description

A steep climb of about 4.1 km and 1,050 m from Portela in Chã das Caldeiras, the village inside the great caldera of Fogo, up the loose cinder slopes to the rim of Pico do Fogo, at 2,829 m the highest point of Cabo Verde. The upper slopes are steep scree and the descent is often a run down the ash; a local guide from Chã das Caldeiras is strongly recommended.
